Seeking highly-motivated students with good academic records (generally, above 3.0) to become involved in research in any of the following areas: simulation environments, software design, computer graphics, power electronics, fuel cells and electrochemical power sources, electric machines, power systems. Contact Prof. Dougal for details.

Graduate Opportunities
Research Assistants and Post-Doctoral Research Associates
The VTB project offers outstanding research opportunities for graduate students and post-doctoral research associates. Highest priority is given to post-doctoral associates or students pursuing doctoral studies in the following two areas,

  • simulation software development, especially algorithms and methods for model integration

  • applications of power electronics in advanced power systems

We seek applicants who are fully committed to their studies, who will work agressively towards both project and degree candidacy goals, and who possess relevant background skills to prepare them for these studies.

All applicants for both areas of study should have :

  • Strong background in software architecture and design.

  • C and C++ experience, including familiarity with MS Developers Studio.

  • Experience designing and building object oriented systems.

  • Keen understanding of circuit theory, including state variable approaches to circuit analysis.

  • Keen understanding of mathematics and algorithms for solving coupled sets of equations.

Depending on study focus area, candidates should also have (as appropriate)

  • Experience with compilation, translation, or interpretation products and technologies.

  • Knowledge of power electronics, especially modeling of power devices and machines

Stipends for Graduate Research Assistants range from $6000/semester to $10,800/semester depending on qualifications. Research Assistantships also carry tuition remissions worth an additional $1100 - $2900 per semester.
